Arizona State’s Teagan Ng (attack) and Regan Spichiger (goalkeeper), along with Cincinnati’s Morgan Handzel (draw specialist) and Payton Kozina (freshman), plus Florida’s Gabbi Koury (midfielder) and UC Davis’ Hailey Dommers (defender) garnered Big 12 lacrosse awards for the fifth week of the season.
Ng became the program’s all-time career leading goal scorer (147) against Niagara with her season-high 6 goals. The senior also scooped up a career-high tying four ground balls in the 17-7 win over the Purple Eagles. Ng added four goals in a 19-12 victory over Bucknell for her fifth game this season with a hat trick or better. This is the Preseason All-Big 12 Team member’s first weekly award of the season and second of her career.
Spichiger had a career-high 15-save performance against Bucknell, more than twice as much as her previous career-high of seven saves. The sophomore helped stifle the Bison offense, which ranked seventh nationally coming into the contest. This is her first league honor.
Handzel obtained her league-leading third Draw Specialist of the Week title of the season after delivering a historic performance in the draw circle. The sophomore tied the NCAA single-game record with 24 draw controls to lead UC to a 16-9 victory over Eastern Michigan. Handzel started her week with 16 draws in a 13-7 win over Kent State.
Kozina had five goals during the week and six points. The freshman posted a hat trick against EMU to help the Bearcats improve to 7-3 on the season. This is her first Big 12 accolade.
Koury played as a true two-way midfielder against Mercer, recording a season-high five draw controls while scoring three goals on four shots with an assist. It was the junior’s second straight game with three goals and an assist. On the defensive end of the field, Koury locked down Mercer’s top midfielder, Abby Vane, holding her to no points and no shots for the first time this season. This is Koury’s second consecutive weekly league honor.
Dommers served as the anchor for an Aggie defense that allowed just seven goals throughout the entire game against Stonehill. The senior had two caused turnovers and two ground balls. This is her first career weekly Big 12 award.
