Texas Tech’s Jackie Lis (player) headlines this week’s Big 12 softball weekly awards, along with Arizona’s Kez Lucas (freshman) and Oklahoma State’s Ruby Meylan (pitcher) earning their second and third honors, respectively, this season.
Lis led all Big 12 batters with a .818 batting average, slashing .818/.857/1.818 in 11 at-bats last week. She opened her week by hitting a long ball, scoring two runs and driving in three more in the midweek matchup at Tarleton State. Facing Conference opponent Iowa State, she recorded six hits in seven at-bats
. She hit two home runs against the Cyclones, including TTU’s 75th one on Sunday, as the team set its single-season record in total home runs (75). This is the Southern Illinois transfer’s first Big 12 award and the third Red Raider honored as the league’s best weekly player this season.
Lucas recorded at least a hit in each game for the Wildcats last week, tallying eight hits in 15 at-bats. She helped Arizona claim a top 25 win against No. 23 Grand Canyon, scoring a run and earning an RBI. In the Big 12 series against Baylor, she recorded a home run and a double. The freshman finished her week with a .533 batting average and posted a .563 on-base percentage to extend her hitting streak to six games.
Meylan earned four decisions, helping the Cowgirls go perfect last week (4-0). She recorded six strikeouts against Tulsa before she threw the same amount in the series opener against Utah. The senior defended her weekly award after holding Utah to one earned run in almost 13 innings. Heading into the series against OSU, the Utes averaged 7.83 runs per game during Big 12 play and averaged 7.15 runs per game overall. The senior tallied 10 strikeouts across three Big 12 games last week, while she has thrown at least a strikeout in 70 consecutive games.
