
Baylor will host the Big 12 Cross Country Championships on Friday, Oct. 28, at Bear Run Cross Country Course in Waco, Texas. The men's 8,000-meter race will begin at 10 a.m. CT followed by the women's 6,000-meter run at 11 a.m. The top men's and women's teams will be crowned league champion and earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships. The top 15 individuals in each race will be named all-conference. Defending national champion Colorado has dominated the Big 12 cross country scene during the last nine years. The men have won every title, while the women have won eight of the nine championships, with Kansas State claiming the only other crown in 1998. Nationally, the Buffs have produced two men's (2001 and 2005) and women's (2000 and 2005) NCAA team championships as members of the league. Individually, Kansas junior Benson Chesang, the 2004 men's individual champion, returns to the championship field. This will mark the championships' 10th site with a different school sponsoring the event each year (Iowa State - 1996, Oklahoma State - 1997, Nebraska - 1998, Texas A&M - 1999, Colorado - 2000, Oklahoma - 2001, Missouri - 2002, Texas (Spicewood, Texas) - 2003, Kansas State (Topeka, Kan.) - 2004, Baylor - 2005).
