David Waxman joined the Big 12 as the Assistant Director - Media Services in October 2021 and was named Associate Director - Media Services in September 2022 before his title changed to Associate Director - Communications in 2024. Waxman assists with all media services efforts including baseball, women’s basketball, football and other duties.
Waxman comes to the conference office with experience in the communications offices at SMU, North Texas, Rice and Texas A&M. He has worked with three national championship-winning coaches and two former Big 12 Women's Basketball Coaches of the Year, Gary Blair and Karen Aston. At different points in his career, he has served as primary contact for 14 of the 23 sports the Big 12 sponsors.
At Texas A&M, he worked for six seasons with the women's basketball and women's golf programs, in addition to a stint where he additionally covered men's golf and both swimming and diving programs. In his role, he helped facilitate a media tour at the Women's Final Four and a trip to Media Day at ESPN's Bristol campus for 2018 Women's Basketball National Freshman of the Year Chennedy Carter. Additionally, he headed the office's student-workers for the 2018-19 school year.
Waxman got his start as a student at SMU, where he handled the publicity for the men's and women's soccer programs. He spent two seasons at North Texas, working with women's basketball, soccer and swimming and diving before moving on to Rice, where he spent a season working with the Owls' women's basketball, volleyball, cross country and track programs.
He has experience working several NCAA Championship events, including Men's and Women's Final Fours, the Men's College World Series and the Men's College Cup. He has worked many other professional and collegiate events, including serving on the game-night staff for the Dallas Mavericks during their NBA Championship season in 2010-11.
The Houston native graduated from SMU with a B.B.A. in management in 2010 and graduated with a M.S. in Sport Management from Sam Houston State in 2022.
