Elizabeth Canning joined the Big 12 as Director - Administration in July 2026. Canning serves as a senior strategic and operational partner
to the Commissioner, ensuring alignment, execution, and communication across the Conference office.
Before joining the Big 12, Canning served as the Chief of Staff and Director of Strategic Initiatives at DePaul University. In this position, she served as the trusted advisor to the Senior Vice President of Advancement, providing strategic guidance and support while coordinating communication across the Division of Advancement and External Relations. Canning also served as a liaison between Advancement and several institutional leadership groups, including the Office of the President, the Office of the Secretary, and the Board of Trustees. She helped draft the Division’s strategic plan, prepare executive briefings and presentations, and contributes to planning efforts surrounding DePaul’s comprehensive fundraising campaign.
Prior to joining DePaul, Canning spent nearly three years with Boston College Athletic Advancement, where she advanced through several fundraising and development roles, including Assistant Director of Athletics Leadership Giving, where she managed a portfolio of donors and helped support the philanthropic mission of Boston College Athletics. She participated in campaign strategy planning, served as the sport administrator for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs, and worked closely with donors to enhance engagement and stewardship efforts.
Canning also served as a Development Associate with the University of Michigan Athletic Department, assisting with fundraising campaigns, donor events, and major gift operations while supporting the department’s development team and student-athlete initiatives.
A graduate of Boston College, Canning earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in American Studies in 2019 and later completed a Master of Science in Sports Administration in 2022. A four-year member of the Boston College women’s swimming team, she was recognized on the Dean’s List, the ACC Academic Honor Roll, and received the Boston College Athletic Director’s Award for Academic Achievement throughout her collegiate career.
