Kansas State Clinches 2003 Big 12 Conference Volleyball Title

Nov. 26, 2003

DALLAS - The Kansas State Wildcats clinched the Big 12 Conference regular-season volleyball title with a 3-0 victory over Texas A&M Wednesday night. The Wildcats were needing just one win from their last two games for the regular season to take the title outright.

K-State came into the 2003 season ranked third in the Big 12 Conference coaches' preseason poll with 86 points coming behind Nebraska and Texas, respectively. The Huskers were selected to win the league title for the seventh straight year in the preseason league rankings.

Starting the season 0-2, the Wildcats went on a 12-0 run, notching victories in the rest of their tournament action and their first two conference games, before losing to Baylor in late September. That loss to BU is the only conference setback K-State has posted this season.

Nationally, Kansas State has been ranked in the Top 10 for the past month and has been at the No. 5 spot for two weeks. The team will finish off the week in conference action travelling to Austin to face Texas for the Wildcats' last game of the regular season.
