Oklahoma State Wins 2004 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Tournament

ARLINGTON, Texas - The Cowboys scored the winning run in the 13th inning to take their first Big 12 baseball tournament crown, since 1996 against Missouri at the 2004 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Tournament at Ameriquest Field in Arlington Sunday. In his first tenure, head coach Frank Anderson became the first head coach in the Big 12 to win a tournament title in his first season. Sunday's championship game was the longest game in the history of the tournament going four hours and 32 minutes in front of 9,751 fans.

The Cowboys came into the championship game with a 3-0 record in the tournament, beating Texas A&M (6-5) on Wednesday, Nebraska (7-1) on Friday and Texas (8-2) on Saturday and end the tournament with a 37-22 overall record. Missouri finished the tourney with a 37-21-1 record, the same amount of wins as the Cowboys. The Tigers also came into to Sunday's game with a 3-0 record like the Pokes, defeating Oklahoma (9-5) on Wednesday, and Baylor two times, once on Friday (12-1) and the other on Saturday (10-7). It was the first appearance for both schools in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Tournament championship game.

Making the 2004 Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference All-Tournament Team were Jason Jaramillo, Josh Fields, Chris Gutierrez, and Spencer Grogan of Oklahoma State; Cody Ehlers, James Boone, Lee Laskowski, Garrett Broshuis and Mark Alexander of Missouri, Rusty Ryal of Oklahoma, Mike Pankratz of Baylor, Chad Steele of Nebraska and Curtis Thigpen of Texas.

The Big 12 teams will await for their fate in the 2004 NCAA Baseball Tournament. 16 regional sites have already been chosen with Austin and Oklahoma hosting regional action. The Sooners will host in Oklahoma City, Okla. and Texas will stay at home. The pairings show is scheduled for Monday, May 31 from 11-11:30 a.m. (CDT).
