Big 12 Tennis Weekly Awards Announced

DALLAS - Callum Beale (Texas) and teammate Petra Dizdar have been named the Big 12 Men's and Women's Tennis Players of the Week, it was announced by the conference office. Beale garners his first career weekly award, while Dizdar receives her second honor.

MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Callum Beale, Texas, Jr., Adelaide, Australia/Marryatville/University of South Australia

Beale tallied a 2-0 record at No. 1 singles in the No. 16 Longhorns' matches with No. 2 Virginia and No. 5 Duke. The junior, ranked 44th in the latest ITA poll, defeated No. 8 Doug Stewart (Virginia), 6-3, 6-3 and no. 5 Ludovic Walter (Duke), 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. The wins mark the first time this season he has topped consecutive top 10 opponents and gives him an 8-0 overall singles record (7-0 at No. 1, 1-0 at No. 2). Beale also posted a 1-1 record at No. 1 doubles with partner Travis Helgeson, improving his doubles mark to 5-3, with all matches at the No. 1 position.

WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Petra Dizdar, Texas, So., Split, Croatia/Vladimir Nazor

Dizdar posted a victory at No. 1 singles as No. 15 Texas dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 8 Duke. The sophomore defeated No. 35 Katie Blaszak, 7-5, 6-4. The win marks her first upset of the season and merits her a 5-4 overall singles record (4-3 at No. 1, 1-1 at No. 2). Dizdar also teamed with junior Mia Marovic to post a victory at No. 2 doubles. She has a 5-4 doubles mark this season, all at the No. 2 spot.
