WACO, Texas - Missouri men's and Kansas State women's outdoor track & field teams lead at the end of day one of the 2006 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex in Waco, Texas.
The Missouri men complied 22 points with top-five finishes in the hammer throw and decathlon.
KSU posted 21 points on the women's side with with a first-place finish in the hammer throw.
In the decathlon, Texas' Donovan Kilmartin posted 3,995 points after five events and ended the first day of competition in first-place, while defending Big 12 Outdoor Champion, Hans Uldal of Missouri, finished fourth. The junior had top finishes in the 100-dash with a time of 10.99 and the long jump with a leap of 7.23.
Julianne Kennedy (Texas Tech) ended day one of the heptathlon with 3,271 points after four events. In the high jump, the senior from Sherman, Texas jumped 1.72 and tied for first with Nebraska's Sara Jane Baker and Kim Shubert.
Kansas' Egor Agafonov broke the conference championship record by over four feet to win his first outdoor title in the men's hammer throw with a final throw of 68.63, while Laci Heller of Kansas State finished first on the women's side with 59.01.
Rounding out the night was the 10,000-meter run. Mary Davies (Oklahoma State) finished first with a time of 33:28.68 and broke the Big 12 Championships record of 33:43.10, set by Sara Slattery of Colorado in 2005. For the men, Colorado's Brent Vaughn posted a time of 30:28.17.
Saturday's events are set to kick off at 11 a.m. CST with the multi-events.
