Texas Men, Nebraska Women Lead Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships

WACO, Texas - Texas men's and Nebraska women's outdoor track & field teams lead at the end of day two of the 2006 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex in Waco, Texas.

The Longhorn men complied 50 points with top finishes in the decathlon, discus and high jump.

In the decathlon, Texas' Donovan Kilmartin posted 7,744 points to earn his first outdoor conference championship, while defending Big 12 Outdoor Champion, Hans Uldal of Missouri, finished second with 7,484 points. The junior had top finishes in the 100-dash (10.99), long jump (7.23), 110-meter hurdles (14.77) and pole vault (5.25).

Brian Robinson (Texas) defeated defending discus champion, Sheldon Battle of Kansas, to earn his first Big 12 title with a throw of 195-10.

Baylor's Chris Gillis defeated the 2004 long jump champion to earn his fi rst Big 12 title with a leap of 26.01.75, while Andra Manson (Texas) claimed his second conference championship in the high jump with a fi nal height of 7-05.00.

NU posted 48 points on the women's side with a first-place finish in the heptathlon.

Sara Jane Baker of Nebraska won her first heptathlon title with 5,486 points and posted top finishes in the long jump (5.88), 800-meter run (2:17.08) and tied for first with teammate Kim Shubert and Texas Tech's Julianne Kennedy in the high jump (1.72).

Defending champion, Marshevet Hooker (Texas), won her second Big 12 title in the long jump with a leap of 21.11.75.

Breanna Eveland of Kansas State claimed her first outdoor conference title and set a new Big 12 record in the pole vault with a jump of 14-05.25.

In the shot put, Texas' Michelle Carter claimed her second women's shot put championship and broke the Big 12 record (56-07 in 1998) with a throw of 59-00.00.
