Longhorns Shut Out Red Raiders At Big 12 Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Texas Longhorns shut out the Texas Tech Red Raiders, 4-0, at the 2006 Big 12 Championships on Wednesday.

Texas (31-24-1) out hit the Red Raiders (39-18), 7-5, to snap a three game losing streak.

Kevin Kasparek (4-2) started for the Longhorns and allowed five hits in six innings of work. Miles Morgan (6-7) was credited with loss after also pitching six innings. Morgan gave up four earned runs in the game.

Texas put up three of their runs in the bottom of the third inning. With two outs recorded, Hunter Harris tripled to keep the Longhorns alive in the inning. Harris went 3-for-3 on Wednesday. Nick Peoples then got on base when he was hit by a Morgan pitch. Drew Stubbs drove in the first run of the game when he singled and Harris reached home. Next up to bat was Chance Wheeless, who promptly singled and scored Peoples. UT then attempted a double steal, where Wheeless was caught out at first and Stubbs scored.

The Longhorns scored the final run of the game in the sixth inning when Stubbs grounded into a double play with the bases loaded and Chais Fuller scored on the play.

The Longhorns will take on Baylor on Thursday at 5 p.m., at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Texas Tech will face Nebraska at 8 p.m., also on Thursday.
