Texas Downs Baylor on Second Day of 2006 Big 12 Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY -- The No. 1-seeded Texas Longhorns downed the Baylor Bears in a shootout, 16-8, at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Thursday.

Texas (40-18) used 20 hits to down the Baylor Bears (34-24) on Thursday. Texas' 18 runs were the third most ever scored by a team in the Big 12 Championships.

Kyle Walker (4-1) picked up the win for the Longhorns after striking out four Baylor batters in 2.1 innings.

The Longhorns scored one run in the top of the first and added four more in the second. Drew Stubbs drove in Nick Peoples and Chais Fuller with his 12th home run of the year in the second.

The Bears responded in the third with four runs of their own. Seth Fortenberry and Beamer Weems contributed with home runs in the inning. Fortenberry fell a double away form hitting for the cycle on Thursday.

However, Texas countered with a seven-run explosion in the fourth. The Longhorns totaled eight hits in the inning.

In the Baylor half of the fourth, Weens hit his second home run of the game and sixth total on the year.

Ryan LaMotta (6-6) was credited for the loss after giving up 10 runs in the first 3.1 innings of the game.

The Longhorns will take on Nebraska at 1 p.m., on Saturday and the Bears will go against Texas Tech at 10 a.m.
