Nebraska Stays Unbeaten at 2006 Big 12 Championships

OKLAHOMA CITY - Nebraska improved to 2-0 at the 2006 Big 12 Championship with a, 6-4, victory over Texas Tech at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Thursday.

Texas Tech (31-25-1) got three more hits than Nebraska (41-14) in the game but it was not enough to get the victory.

Joba Chamberlain (6-4) got the start for the Huskers and struck out seven batters to get the victory.

The Huskers got off to a quick start by scoring two runs in the top of the first.

The Red Raiders evened the score in the second with a Patrick Smart home run that drove in Matt Smith.

Texas Tech took their only lead when Roger Kiechnick hit his ninth long ball of the season in the third.

Nebraska took the lead for good by turning three hits into four runs in the top of the sixth. The inning was highlighted by Jeff Christy's home run that drove in Jake Opitz.

Texas Tech used the long ball to score one more run when Tyler Reves went deep to give the Red Raiders their fourth and final run of the game.

Nebraska will take on Texas for the right to advance to the Big 12 Championship on Saturday at 1 p.m. Texas Tech will go against the Baylor Bears at 10 a.m.
