Missouri Run Rules Oklahoma at 2006 Big 12 Championships

May 26, 2006

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Missouri Tigers used a five-run first inning to run rule the Oklahoma Sooners, 11-0, at the 2006 Big 12 Championships at the AT&T Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City on Friday. It was the first run rule in a Big 12 Championship game since the Sooners were beaten by Baylor in the 2004 Championships.

The Tigers (31-24) now are 2-0 in this year's Big 12 Championships while the Sooners (39-19) fall to 0-2.

Max Scherzer (7-1) was the star of the day for the Tigers. Scherzer pitched a complete game shutout enroute to the victory. Scherzer also only gave up four hits in his seven innings of work.

Derek Chambers contributed to the MU scoring by hitting a solo shot in the fourth inning. It was Chamber's fifth home run of the year.

The Tigers added another run in the sixth when Evan Frey scored on a Matt Lovelady wild pitch. Frey got on base by way of a Lovelady walk.

Missouri ended the game when J.C. Fields hit a home run in the bottom of the seventh to score Brock Bond and Ryan Lollis. It was Field's third of the season.

Steven Guerra (10-3) was credited with the loss for the Sooners after giving up six runs in five innings of work.

Missouri will face the Kansas Jayhawks Saturday at 8 p.m., while the Sooners will face rival Oklahoma State at 5 p.m.
