Oklahoma State’s Oleksandr Nedovyesov was honored as the 2009 Campbell/ITA National Player of the Year, the Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced. Nedovyesov joins Mallory Cecil of Duke as the ITA’s two honorees for the 2009 season.
Nedovyesov, a junior, compiled an overall singles record of 35-7 during his junior season and finished the year with a No. 1 national ranking. This spring, he tallied a 20-4 mark and helped OSU reach the NCAA Tournament.
The All-American entered the fall season as the ITA's preseason No. 1 singles player and lived up to the billing with a runner-up finish at the D'Novo Men's All-American Championship. Nedovyesov also qualified for the ITA Indoor National Championship with a doubles win at the 2008 Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships, where he advanced to the quarterfinals.
A native of Alushta, Ukraine, Nedovyesov was selected as the 2009 ITA Men's Player to Watch for the second consecutive year and was named Big 12 Player of the Year for the second straight season.
In his three years at OSU, he has been a unanimous All-Big 12 performer each year in singles and doubles and was named the Big 12 Freshman and Newcomer of the Year in 2007.
In 42 matches this season, Nedovyesov faced a ranked opponent in all but three matches including his last of the season at the NCAA Championships, where he advanced to Round of 16 play. Nedovyesov also teamed with Nathan Byrnes to finish the year ranked No. 14 in the ITA national doubles rankings.
