Raynor Campbell (Baylor) has been tabbed the Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while Jeremy Erben (Oklahoma) and Barrett Loux (Texas A&M) share Pitcher of the Week honors for games of March 1-7, in voting by a panel of media covering the conference. It is the first conference weekly accolade for all three student-athletes.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Raynor Campbell, Baylor, INF, Sr., 5-11, 185, Katy, Texas/Taylor
Campbell hit .500 (12-for-24) with three doubles, four home runs and 17 RBI on the week. He helped the Bears take three-of-four from Oral Roberts. In the series finale, Campbell connected on a RBI single to tie the game, then hit a game-winning two-run homer in sixth. The Katy, Texas-senior gave the Baylor pitchers two insurance runs with another homer in the eighth. Campbell collected at least one RBI in all six games during the week, including multi-RBI efforts in five contests. He drove in runs in 12 different plate appearances. With the BU offense struggling after a loss on Friday night, Campbell was moved into the clean-up spot for the first time since his fourth collegiate game. In three games in this spot, Campbell homered three times, produced 10 RBI and stole a pair of bases.
PITCHERS OF THE WEEK
Jeremy Erben, Oklahoma, RHP, Sr., 5-11, 201, New Braunfels, Texas/Weatherford JC
Erben picked up three wins in four relief appearances this week. In six innings of work, senior righty struck out eight batters and held the opposition scoreless with four hits and a walk allowed. Teams hit just .200 off him in the four outings. Erben's only no-decision came on Tuesday against UT-Arlington as he held the Mavericks to one hit in one inning of work with two strikeouts. That outing led to another OU victory. On Thursday, he struck out three against South Florida in two innings and surrendered two hits for the win. Two days later, Erben pitched a perfect inning against Western Illinois to record his fifth victory. On Sunday, he lasted two innings and struck out two batters for his third victory in three straight appearances.
Barret Loux, Texas A&M, RHP, Jr., 6-5, 215, Houston, Texas/Stratford
In seven shutout innings, Loux allowed one hit and two walks while striking out a career-high 12 batters against Winthrop. The junior gave up a one-out double in the first and hit the next batter, then retired 19 of the last 21 batters he faced. He surrendered only lead walks in the second and fifth innings from that point on, only allowing two balls out of the infield -- a first-inning double and a fourth-inning fly out. He threw 114 pitches, with 78 for strikes (68 percent) against a team that averaged 10.1 runs prior to this weekend.
