COLUMBIA, MO. -- Nebraska men and women lead the team standings after two days of competition at the 2010 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Audrey J. Walton Stadium Track. The Husker men have posted 52 points while the women own 59.
Six field event titles were awarded Saturday afternoon, beginning with the men’s shot put. Kansas’ freshman Mason Finley tossed a 62-8.75 (19.12) for first place.
Texas swept the men’s and women’s long jump events. Freshman Marquise Goodwin (Texas) posted a 26-0.75 (7.94) for his first outdoor crown. On the women’s side, Chantel Malone won with a PR-tying leap of 21-0.5 (6.41). The junior was also the Big 12 indoor champion in the event.
Fellow Longhorn Victoria Lucas added a top finish in the women’s high jump, clearing a mark of 5-0.875 (1.75).
Oklahoma’s Brittany Borman sealed the victory in the women’s discuss, tossing a 174-5 (53.16). Borman currently ranks second nationally in the event.
In the final field event of the day, Jordan Scott, who is currently tied for first nationally, recorded a 17-8.25 (5.39) to win the pole vault.
Chantae McMillan captured the women’s heptathlon crown, tallying 5,349 points. McMillan earned valuable points from winning the shot put, high jump, javelin throw and tying for first in the high jump.
Missouri’s Nick Adcock notched a PR 7,704 points in the decathlon for the victory. The senior won valuable points in the 400-meter dash and 110-meter hurdles.
The final day of the Big 12 Track and Field Championships wraps up Sunday, May 16 with field events at 2 p.m. CT and running events at 3 p.m. CT. Single-day passes are $7 for adults and $5 for stud¬ents and children.
