OSU's Hedwall Claims NCAA Women's Golf Individual Title

Oklahoma State's Caroline Hedwall made history by becoming the first Cowgirl golfer to win medalist honors at the NCAA Championship.

The sophomore fired a final-round 68 at the Country Club of Landfall to finish four shots clear of Arizona State's Jennifer Johnson. She broke par all four days at the event en route to her 12-under total of 276.

Hedwall led OSU to an eighth-place finish in the team standings as the Cowgirls tied Duke at 27-over (1,179) at the par-72, 6,368-yard course. OSU posted a 6-over 294 during its final round to secure its second-straight top 10 at the national tournament under head coach Annie Young.

Texas A&M placed 11th in the team standings, led by Julia Boland, who tied for 23rd individually. The Aggies entered the NCAA Championships ranked No. 24 by both Golfweek and Golfstat, but were as high as ninth in standings before finishing the tournament in a tie at 31-over with Auburn. It was the Aggies’ fourth-highest NCAA team finish in school history and gives head coach Trelle McCombs two top 11 finishes in four seasons at A&M.

Texas (299-296-300-294) concluded its season with a 16th place tie after carding a 72-hole total of 37-over-par 1189. The Longhorns fired their lowest round of the tournament with a final-round 6-over 294. Texas' 16th-place finish marked its best under third-year head coach Martha Richards. The Longhorns finished 17th in 2008 during Richards' first season at the helm, and 23rd in 2009. Freshman Haley Stephens led UT, placing 33rd on the individual leaderboard.
