Big 12 Conference television selections and designations for the first three weeks of the 2013 football season and special dates have been finalized.
The Conference kicks off the season on Friday, August 30, with its inaugural appearance on Fox Sports 1 (FS1). The new channel is scheduled to launch in August as part of the FOX Sports Media Group and will provide expanded coverage of Big 12 events.
Opening weekend will also feature two special event contests among 2012 bowl participants from the Big 12 and SEC. Oklahoma State will face Mississippi State in the Texas Kickoff Classic at Houston’s Reliant Stadium while the Cowboys Classic features TCU against LSU at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Both will be televised to a national audience.
Per Big 12 contractual agreements, four annual Thursday games also highlight the schedule. Each will be telecast in a national window, including the Thanksgiving matchup of Texas Tech at Texas.
All remaining television selections will be announced on a 12-day or six-day basis throughout the season. In accordance with its 13-year joint agreement with FOX and ESPN, every home Big 12 football game is available for telecast. Each league member is allotted one member institution retained football game for telecast on an institutional platform.
