Scoring Story
In Week Three, Big 12 teams scored 32 touchdowns from scrimmage – 21 on pass plays and 11 on running plays. The rushing scores totaled 94 yards, an average of 8.5 yards per play. The passing scores totaled 511 yards, an average of 24.3 yards per play. Eight of the passing touchdowns covered 30 or more yards.
Through three weeks, there have been 56 rushing touchdowns averaging 9.3 yards per play. There have been 58 passing touchdowns averaging 25.8 yards per play. Also, there have been interception returns of 100, 50, 28 and 38 yards, a kickoff return for 100 yards and a punt return for 82 yards.
In Week Three, the 32 touchdown drives with 14 taking two minutes or less and eight requiring five or fewer plays.
Baylor (3-0; defeated Buffalo, 63-21; at Iowa State Sept. 27)
Receiver Lynx Hawthorne had career highs with seven receptions, 123 receiving yards and 2 receiving TDs – the first touchdowns of his career.
Senior quarterback Bryce Petty tied a career high for touchdown passes with four.
Freshman KD Cannon has five touchdown receptions of more than 40 yards (42, 46, 50, 81 and 89).
Baylor is 3-0 through its first three games for the fourth consecutive season – a program first.
Baylor equaled the record for the most points scored in a road game.
Baylor's offensive line has not allowed a sack through its first 3 games this season (112 pass attempts).
Baylor allowed its first touchdown of the season with 9:31 remaining in the third quarter, snapping a streak of 155:29 game time.
Baylor had 18 "chunk plays" - 12 passes of 15 yards or more and six runs of 10 or more yards.
Iowa State (1-2; defeated Iowa, 20-17; vs. Baylor Sept. 27)
Cory Morrissey had career highs for tackles for loss (three) and sacks (two).
Freshman receiver Allen Lazard had career highs in receptions (five) and yards (53).
Cole Netten, who made a 42-yard game winner on the final play, had a career-long 47-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Iowa State won back-to-back games in Iowa City for the first time since winning three in a row from 1998-2002.
Iowa State held Iowa to 275 yards of total offense, its lowest output in the series since 2008 (244 yards).
Kansas (1-1; lost to Duke, 41-3; vs. Central Michigan Saturday)
Senior linebacker Ben Heeney had 15 tackles, his 13th game of his career with double-digit tackles.
Senior punter Trevor Pardula averaged 51.8 yards on eight punts. He had two that went 70 or more yards.
Sophomore quarterback Montell Cozart had a career-high 24-yard run and attempted a career-high 27 passes.
Kansas has scored in the first quarter in each game. The Jayhawks got on the board in the first quarter only four times in 2013.
Kansas has lost 25 consecutive road games. The last road victory came in 2009 at UT-El Paso.
Kansas State (idle; vs. Auburn Thursday)
The Wildcats will take a 2-0 record into their home game against Auburn Thursday.
Oklahoma (3-0; defeated Tennessee, 34-10; at West Virginia Saturday)
Sterling Shepard caught five passes for 109 yards and has back-to-back 100-yard games for the first time in his career.
Julian Wilson returned an interception 100 yards for a touchdown. It's the fifth play of 100 yards in OU history and the second interception to cover 100 yards, joining Al Needs vs. Kansas State in 1945.
Running back Keith Ford had a career-high 15 carries and gained 56 yards. His 23-yard touchdown reception was the first of his career.
Durron Neal had a career-high seven receptions for 71 yards.
Oklahoma has won seven consecutive games for the first time since the 2010-11 seasons.
Oklahoma is 73-3 (.961) against unranked foes at home under coach Bob Stoops with wins in 44 of their last 45 such games.
Oklahoma has defeated its first three opponents to open a season by 20-plus points for the first time since 2008.
Oklahoma State (2-1; defeated UT-San Antonio, 43-13; vs. Texas Tech Sept. 25)
Sophomore Ben Grogan converted a career-long 47-yard field goal in the second quarter.
Receiver James Washington had a 33-yard touchdown catch, the first score of his career.
Oklahoma State has won 24-straight home games against unranked opponents.
With touchdown drives of 1:46, 1:49 and 1:27, Oklahoma State extended its streak of recording at least one touchdown drive of two minutes or less to 37 games.
Oklahoma State has scored 20 or more points in 55 consecutive games dating back to the start of the 2010 season.
TCU (2-0; defeated Minnesota, 30-7; at SMU Sept. 27)
Quarterback Trevone Boykin had a team-high 92 yards rushing on 12 attempts.
Jaden Oberkrom was 3-of-3 on field goals with makes from 46, 45 and 37 yards. He's 5-of-5 on the season. Oberkrom has made 15 of his last 17 field goals with the only misses being from 54 and 62 yards.
Senior linebacker Paul Dawson had a team-best 15 tackles, including four for loss Dawson also had a second-quarter forced fumble as well as the recovery to go with a pass breakup and a quarterback hurry.
TCU is 89-3 under coach Gary Patterson when allowing 17 points or less.
Texas (1-2; lost to UCLA, 20-17; at Kansas Sept. 27)
Making his second career start, quarterback Tryone Swoopes completed his first 11 pass attempts. On UT's first two touchdown drives he was 11 of 13 for 104 yards and two TDs.
Senior receiver John Harris has a touchdown catch in the first three games. He's the third player in UT history to accomplish that feat (Mike Davis, 2013; Jordan Shipley, 2008).
Punter William Russ averaged a career-best 50.5 yards on six punts, including 58- and 62-yarders in the third quarter, the two longest of his career, and another 58 yarder in the fourth.
Cornerback Duke Thomas had a career-high 10 tackles.
Texas had three sacks against UCLA and a total of 13 in three games.
Texas Tech (2-1; lost to Arkansas 49-28; at Oklahoma State on Sept. 25)
Quarterback Davis Webb has at least one touchdown pass in the first 13 games of his career – a school record. Webb also had the first rushing touchdown of his career.
Receiver D.J. Polite-Bray scored his first career touchdown on a 3-yard reception.
The loss ended Texas Tech's 16-game winning streak in nonconference games. It also ended a 26-game regular season nonconference winning streak against opponents at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Texas Tech lost the turnover battle (three to two) for the 11th consecutive game dating back to last season. The Red Raiders a 5-6 in those games.
Texas Tech was penalized a season-low five times for 60 yards.
West Virginia (2-1; defeated Maryland, 40-37, vs. Oklahoma Saturday)
Clint Trickett had a career-high 511 passing yards and a career-high four touchdown passes.
Kevin White had 13 receptions for a career-high 216 receiving yards - the third-most receiving yards in a game in school history.
Early in the second quarter, Maryland was 4-for-5 on third down. West Virginia stopped the Terps on their next 10 third-down conversions.
West Virginia has gone over 600 yards in total offense in the last two games.
West Virginia is outscoring its opponents 27-3 in the first quarter this season and has scored points on all three of its opening drives.
