Collegiate Baseball Preseason Recognitions

With baseball season just around the corner, the Collegiate Baseball News/Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-Americans and Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division I Fabulous 40 Pre-Season Poll have been revealed. The Big 12 had four teams ranked in the top 40 and placed three student-athletes on the All-America team.

Fresh off of back-to-back College World Series appearances, the TCU Horned Frogs enter the 2016 rankings at No. 15 in the nation. Oklahoma State comes in at No. 25, and Texas Tech and Texas round out the rankings at No. 39 and 40 respectively. Oklahoma also enters the season receiving votes in the poll.

The Big 12 has placed teams in the College World Series each of the last two seasons, including TCU who has made it to Omaha in both 2014 and 2015. In 2014, the conference sent three teams to the World Series (TCU, Texas and Texas Tech).

Oklahoma had a pair of juniors named to the Collegiate Baseball/Louisville Slugger Pre-Season All-America team in right-handed pitcher Alec Hansen and shortstop Sheldon Neuse. Neuse claimed preseason All-America status for the second consecutive season and Hansen projects as a potential first-round draft pick in the 2016 MLB Draft.

TCU junior righty Mitchell Traver also earned second-team honors after leading all Horned Frog starters in ERA in 2015 with a 1.89 (fourth in the Big 12).

The conference placed four players on the Collegiate Baseball News/Louisville Slugger Postseason All-American team in 2015, with all four selections moving on to professional baseball after the season.
