The Texas Longhorns are out to an early lead after shooting a combined 567 through 36 holes at the 2015 Big 12 Men’s Golf Championship at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
The Longhorns are followed on the leader board by Iowa State who jumped four spots in the second round on the day to combine for a team total 583, to be 23 over on the par 70 course. Texas Tech rounds out the top three only three shots back of the second place Cyclones.
Tenth ranked Oklahoma sits in fourth place at 588, followed by TCU who carded a 590 on the first day of play. Oklahoma State claimed the sixth spot on day one after posting a team score of 597. Kansas and Kansas State placed eighth and ninth respectively after carding a 600 and 604.
Texas’ Gavin Hall leads all competitors in the Championship with a four-under 136 through 36 holes. In his first of two rounds, Hall’s first round 65 tied for third in Big 12 Championship history and is the lowest round score since Chris Ward’s 67 in 2010 and is the lowest round score in a Big 12 Championship at Southern Hills besting Oklahoma State’s Hunter Mahan’s 67 in 2010. Fellow Longhorn, Scottie Scheffler climbed five spots after shooting a three-under, 67 on his second round to finish the day in second place in individual play. The third round gets underway Tuesday at 8 a.m. with Baylor, Kansas, and Kansas State teeing off the first hole. Oklahoma, TCU and Oklahoma State will begin their rounds off the first hole at 8:50 a.m. while Texas, Iowa State and Texas Tech will begin play at 9:40 a.m.
