Regular season champion TCU highlights the 2015 edition of the All-Big 12 Baseball Teams and postseason honors as Cody Jones has been named Player of the Year with head coach Jim Schlossnagle the unanimous choice for Coach of the Year and Connor Wanhanen the unanimous selection for Freshman of the Year. 

Oklahoma State southpaw Michael Freeman is the 2015 Pitcher of the Year, while Kansas’ Ben Krauth is the Newcomer of the Year.

The team and awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.

Jones leads the Big 12 with a .364 batting average in overall games. He also tops the conference in runs scored, on-base percentage and stolen bases while sitting among the league leaders in hits, total bases, walks and slugging percentage. He is the Big 12’s active career leader in runs and stolen bases. In Big 12 play, the senior finished with a .393 batting average and .505 on-base percentage.

Freeman became just the third hurler in Big 12 history to win Pitcher of the Week honors on four occasions this year as the senior finished league play with a 0.80 ERA and 5-2 record over seven games. He has three complete games on the season and currently ranks first in the Big 12 in innings pitched and opponent batting average. Over his last 12 starts, he has allowed just seven earned runs in 84.0 innings pitched. He is the second Cowboy to claim the Pitcher of the Year award, joining Andrew Heaney (2012), and is also a unanimous selection to the All-Big 12 First Team.

Wanhanen not only received unanimous selection as the Freshman of the Year, but was also a unanimous choice on the All-Big 12 First Team and All-Freshman Team. The Flower Mound, Texas, product was the only freshman to rank in the top 10 in hits and stolen bases for Big 12 only contests where he also finished with the fifth-best batting average and fourth-best on-base percentage. With Jones’ Player of the Year honor, this marks just the fifth time in conference history that the same team has won the Player and Freshman of the Year in the same season.

Krauth joins Jordan Piche (2013) and David Narodowski (2009) as Kansas’ Big 12 Newcomer of the Year recipients. The junior left-hander, who spent the past two seasons at Diablo Valley College, went 7-5 on the year with a 3.65 ERA over 91.1 innings pitched. He ranks third in the Big 12 in strikeouts and innings pitched, while finishing first in strikeouts in Big 12-only contests.

In his third season in the Big 12 and 12th at TCU, Schlossnagle has guided the Frogs to their first Big 12 regular season crown. The title comes on the heels of a postseason championship for TCU a season ago, which was the start of a run that saw the Frogs make their second appearance in the College World Series in the past five years. Schlossnagle’s Frogs lead the Big 12 in batting average, ERA and fielding percentage. A team has finished the conference season first in all three categories on just two occasions. TCU closed out the season winning 11 straight conference contests and boasts a 27-2 mark in home games, a top 10 national ranking each week of the season and the nation’s second-best ERA.

Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas Tech each placed six honorees among the All-Big 12 First and Second Teams with the Frogs racking up five first team selections, including three pitchers honored. Preston Morrison becomes a three-time All-Big 12 First Team member - just the seventh player in conference history to achieve the feat and first since the 2006-08 seasons. He is joined on the first team by fellow starter Alex Young and relief pitcher Riley Ferrell plus individual award winners Jones and Wanhanen.

Repeating as first team honorees with Morrison is teammate Ferrell along with Sheldon Neuse (Oklahoma), Gage Green (Oklahoma State), Donnie Walton (Oklahoma State) and Eric Gutierrez. Eleven of the 18 first team selections were unanimous choices, including three Frogs.

On the All-Freshman Team, Texas led all squads with three members, while TCU and West Virginia each placed a pair to the 12-member squad. In addition to Wanhanen, Matt McLaughlin (Kansas), Michael Cantu (Texas) and Kyle Davis (West Virginia) were unanimous choices.
