The Big 12 Conference has announced its schedule on ESPN’s Big Monday platform for the 2016 men's basketball conference season, highlighting a slate that will include more than 100 games on the ESPN networks.
Last year, the average margin of victory in the Big 12 matchups on Big Monday was 8.75 points - with five of the eight contests decided by seven points or less. The 20th year of the long-standing and popular arrangement with ESPN will tip off in 2016 with three straight matchups among teams projected in the top 10 of most preseason polls - Oklahoma at Kansas (Jan. 4), OU at Iowa State (Jan. 18) and Kansas at Iowa State (Jan. 25).
February starts with a meeting between two nearby rivals as Texas heads to Baylor. The squads have split the last four matchups. UT plays a second straight Big 12 Monday on February 8 when it faces its Red River Rivalry foe at OU. Kansas is back on Big Monday on February 15, hosting Oklahoma State after the schools each recorded one win in the 2015 meetings. Iowa State travels to West Virginia on February 22. The Cyclones pulled out a two-point victory in Morgantown a year ago. The slate concludes on leap day (Feb. 29), with the Jayhawks traveling to Texas. KU has won five in a row versus the Longhorns.
The Big 12 is the only league among the Big 12, ACC, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC to play a full double round-robin schedule in basketball. The Conference was rated as No. 1 in the RPI a year ago for the second straight campaign, with every squad recording at least one victory over a top 25 opponent. Nine of 10 league squads were ranked or received votes in the top 25 a year ago.
