Trio of Teams Represent on D1Baseball Preseason Poll

The Big 12’s three postseason teams from a season ago represent on the 2016 D1Baseball.com preseason top 25.

Oklahoma State sits in the top 10 at No. 8, while TCU is ranked 19th and Texas is 23rd. The three teams also appear on the Collegiate Baseball preseason top 40 list with TCU at No. 15, Oklahoma State at No. 25 and Texas at No. 40. Tech is also ranked in that poll, announced in December, at No. 39, while Oklahoma is receiving votes.

The Cowboys are coming off their second-straight appearance in the Big 12 Championship final and ranked as high as No. 17 at the conclusion of 2015 after their third consecutive NCAA postseason berth. Under the direction of Josh Holliday, who is entering his fourth season, the Cowboys have posted a 127-57 mark.

TCU enters 2016 fresh off a second-straight appearance in the College World Series. The Frogs compiled a 51-15 record, including an 18-5 mark in Big 12 play. Along the way, the Frogs earned TCU’s first-ever outright team Big 12 championship and earned a national seed for the second straight year.

In 2016, the Horned Frogs return 15 letterwinners and welcome 18 newcomers. Mitchell Traver, a preseason All-American headlines the returning corps, while National Gatorade Player of the Year Luken Baker highlights the incoming class.

Texas, winners of the 2015 Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship, makes the top 25 preseason cut after not earning a final ranking to end 2015. The Longhorns will open play with Augie Garrido at the helm for his 20th season in Austin.

The 2016 Big 12 baseball season kicks off on Friday, February 19, with conference action underway beginning the weekend of March 18.
