Daniel Castano (Baylor) and Michael Grove (West Virginia) earn their second Big 12 baseball Pitcher and Newcomer of the Week honors, respectively, while Oklahoma’s Cody Thomas is the Big 12 Player of the Week.

Castano collected Pitcher of the Week honor on March 7 and has also earned a Newcomer of the Week award during his rookie campaign in 2014. Grove is WVU’s fourth Newcomer of the Week honoree and 10th weekly award winner on the year.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Cody Thomas, Oklahoma, Jr., LF/DH, Colleyville, Texas/Heritage
Thomas, Oklahoma’s former quarterback turned baseball player, started all three games of the Bedlam series and hit .417 (5-for-12) with a .500 on-base percentage and .917 slugging percentage. In Friday’s opener, he went deep with an early three-run home run and later added a two-run double as he finished 2-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. For the series, Thomas totaled a league-leading seven RBI with four runs scored and combined to hit for the cycle over the three games. In Sunday’s finale, he went 2-for-3 with a two-run, two-out triple in the top of the first inning that held up in a 3-1 Sooner victory.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Daniel Castano, Baylor, Jr., LHP, Austin, Texas/Lake Travis
Castano earned the series-clinching win over No. 10 TCU on Saturday at Baylor Ballpark, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts in seven-plus innings. Castano’s effort helped Baylor win its first series over a Baseball America-ranked opponent since sweeping No. 13 Cal Poly on Feb. 13-15, 2015, in Waco. It was also the first series win over a top 10-ranked Baseball America opponent since taking two-of-three from No. 4 Cal State Fullerton on March 7-9, 2014, in Waco.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Michael Grove, West Virginia, Fr., OF/2B, Wheeling, W. Va./Wheeling Park
In a midweek game for the Mountaineers, Grove had an impressive day on the mound to lead WVU to a 4-1 victory against Maryland. He struck out a career-high-tying 13 batters in just 6.2 innings. It is the fourth time this season a Big 12 pitcher had 13 strikeouts, with Grove accounting for two of those occurrences. While earning the win, Grove held Maryland to a .240 batting average and turned in his second career quality start. For the week, he led the league in strikeouts and was second among all Big 12 freshmen with a 1.35 ERA and 6.2 innings pitched.
