The league had five standouts named Collegiate Baseball All-Americans, as announced by the newspaper this morning. Texas Tech's Steven Gingery was honored with a first team selection, followed by TCU's Evan Skoug with a second team nod. Third team honorees include TCU's Jared Janczak, Morgan Cooper of Texas and Texas Tech's Hunter Hargrove.
All five honorees were named to the All-Big 12 First Team last week and will appear in NCAA regional action tomorrow. The league had three Collegiate Baseball All-America selections a season ago.
Gingery, the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, has a 9-1 record on the mound while recording 99 strikeouts in 85.3 innings pitched. The sophomore registers a 1.69 ERA for the regular season co-champion Red Raiders.
Skoug, the league's Co-Player of the Year, recorded 16 home runs and 55 RBI heading into the postseason. His 61 hits helped the Horned Frogs claim a share of the regular season title.
Janczak is a perfect 8-0 while appearing in 11 games this season. The sophomore has posted a 1.99 ERA while his .155 opposing batting average tops the league.
Cooper is 6-3 and has a 2.32 ERA will starting 14 games for the Longhorns. His 103 strikeouts leads the league and ranks third in opposing batting average (.203).
Hargrove, the Big 12 Co-Player of the Year, hit .342 and registered 78 hits during his senior season in Lubbock. He tops the league in doubles and total bases heading into the postseason.
Big 12 baseball begins NCAA Tournament action tomorrow, June 2-5.
