Big 12 Conference Commissioner Bob Bowlsby has announced the hiring of Jeff Jackson as Associate Commissioner – Men’s Basketball & Game Management. Jackson joins the Big 12 Conference staff after spending four years as Deputy Commissioner of the Big South Conference.
“I am delighted that Jeff will be joining the Big 12 Conference office staff,” said Bowlsby. “His extraordinary basketball coaching and administrative experiences will enhance service to our member institutions. He will be a valuable addition to an already exceptional team.”
Jackson will have oversight of men’s basketball and game management, working directly with the Conference’s coaches, administrators, and officiating program; along with coordination of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men’s Basketball Championship.
“I am truly excited and looking forward to working collaboratively with the coaches and administrators of the Big 12,” commented Jackson. “I greatly appreciate the opportunity provided by Commissioner Bowlsby to assist in servicing one of the premier conferences in the nation."
Jackson joined the Big South staff in 2014 following a 30-year college basketball coaching career. While at the Big South he oversaw external operations, championships and sports administration with a primary focus on men’s and women’s basketball. In addition, Jackson was responsible for operationalizing the Conference’s strategic plan, working on the league’s branding efforts and assisting with television-related matters.
A graduate of Cornell University, Jackson’s coaching career included seven seasons leading the Furman program and three years as the head coach at New Hampshire. He has also served stints on the coaching staffs at Vanderbilt, Stanford, Colorado State, St. Bonaventure, USC, and Cornell.
Jackson has been active on a national level where he began a four-year term in 2017 on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee. He has also done television work as a color analyst on ESPN3 and Fox Sports 1 basketball productions.
Jackson succeeds John Underwood who is retiring at the end of the month.
