For the second-consecutive week, Texas Tech’s Brittany Brewer was named Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while K-State forward Ayoka Lee collected her third-straight Freshman of the Week award. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award winners.
Brewer contributed 22 points, 13 rebounds and five blocks for her fifth double-double in six games this season to help push Texas Tech to an 84-48 win over Ole Miss. The victory was the largest margin of victory in a Big 12/SEC Women’s Challenge game and the first challenge win in TTU program history. It also marked Brewer’s fourth game this season with 15+ points, 10+ rebounds and 5+ blocks. With 34 blocks and 5.67 blocks per game, she is the nation's leader in rejections.
The honor is the third overall in Brewer’s career.
Lee averaged a double-double and tied a single-game school record during K-State's games against Incarnate Word and Arkansas. For the week, she averaged 17.5 points on 65.4 percent shooting (17-of-26) and 11.0 rebounds in 25.5 minutes, while also blocking 3.5 shots. Lee tallied 20 points on 10-of-10 shooting while adding eight rebounds and six blocked shots in 22 minutes against IWU. The rookie was the ninth player in the history of the Big 12 to finish a game perfect from the field with 10 or more field goal attempts. At Arkansas, Lee collected her fourth double-double this season as she tallied 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting, a career-high 14 rebounds and one block.
