Quartet Collects Big 12 Week 2 Awards

Oklahoma standouts Tyler Hardman and Nathan Wiles were named Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for week two. Texas freshman right-handed pitcher Coy Cobb and Texas Tech freshman outfielder Tanner O’Tremba shared Newcomer of the Week honors. A five-person media panel selects the weekly award winners.

Hardman batted .429, collected six hits and drove in nine runs in four games last week to lead the Sooners to a 3-1 record. His grand slam in the seventh inning gave OU the go-ahead lead in the victory over San Diego on Friday.

The junior Wiles allowed just four hits in 7.0 shutout innings, as the Sooners collected a win at San Diego State. His 10 strikeouts were a career-high as Wiles improved to 2-0 on the season.

Cobb tossed seven shutout innings in his second career start for the Longhorns against Purdue. The freshman surrendered just four hits and did not walk a batter, as opponents batted just .167 against him.

O’Tremba registered a Big 12 season-high 7 RBI in Texas Tech’s 19-4 win over Kentucky on Sunday. The freshman recorded a batting average of .455, five hits, a homer and eight RBI in the three-game sweep over the Wildcats.

The weekly accolade is the second for Wiles, while Cobb, Hardman and O’Tremba are first-time honorees.
