Four Named Big 12 Outdoor Athletes of the Week

For the first time in four years, three men’s student-athletes were named Big 12 Athletes of the Week as Gleb Dudarev (Kansas), Chengetayi Mapaya (TCU) and Charles Brown (Texas Tech) earned honors. Ashtin Zamzow (Texas) garnered Big 12 Womens Athlete of the Week recognition.

All four honorees' performances last week ranked within the top-15 in the world this season, including the No. 2 ranking in the world through Zamzow’s heptathlon performance.

The 2019 Indoor Track & Field Pentathlon Champion, Zamzow, recorded the second-best heptathlon mark in the world at the Texas Relays. She also became the first-ever Longhorn to win the Heptathlon in the 92 year history of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. Zamzow finished with 6,148 points, setting outdoor PRs in six of the seven events, recording the fourth-highest point total in Texas Relays history.

Kansas junior took the NCAA lead in the hammer throw at the Florida Relays last week, recording a mark of 74.39m (244-1 ft.) as the top collegiate finisher in the event. The mark also places him at No. 12 in the world.

Mapaya finished first among collegians at the Texas Relays last week as his triple jump, 16.56m (54-4 ft.), placed him at No. 14 in the world. With his most recent performance, the Horned Frog currently ranks No. 1 in the nation and No. 2 in school history.

For the second consecutive year, Brown recorded his longest jump of the season at the Texas Relays as he landed a leap of 26’-5.75” (8.07m), with wind, which comes in at No. 7 in the world and sixth in program history for wind-aided marks. With last week’s jump, the senior sits atop the NCAA leaderboard.

This week’s honors mark the first on the season for all recipients and the fifth career award for Brown, third all-time for Dudarev, and the first for both Mapaya and Zamzow.
