Kurgat, Jackson Named Runners of the Week

Iowa State’s Edwin Kurgat and West Virginia’s Hayley Jackson were named the Big 12 cross country runners of the week after week four of the 2019 season.

Kurgat won the John McNichols Invitational with a time of 23:47 in the Men’s 8K, pacing a field that included five of the nation’s top-25 teams. The senior was also named a USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week after his performance. This is the defending Big 12 champion’s second-career weekly honor.

Jackson took second at the Lock Haven Invitational after running a 20:42 in the Women’s 6K, matching a career-best and leading the Mountaineers to a team victory at the meet with a perfect 15-point score. The junior earned her first-career top-five finish and was one of seven runners from WVU to place inside the top 10. Jackson is a first-time honoree.

This is West Virginia’s first weekly honor of 2019, while Iowa State picks up its second of the season.
