UT’s Collier, KU’s Chatzileonti Collect Week 1 Awards

Texas’ Charli Collier earned Big 12 Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, while Kansas’ Ioanna Chatzileonti collected Freshman of the Week during Week 1 of the season.

Collier averaged a double-double of 34.5 points and 14.0 rebounds during contests against SMU and North Texas. Over that stretch, Collier posted the fourth-highest scoring game in Texas history by totaling 44 points to go with 16 rebounds in Sunday's 106-69 win over North Texas and also added 25 points with 12 boards on Wednesday in a 90-51 season-opening victory over SMU. Overall, she shot 73.3% for the week (22-for-30), 2-for-2 from the three-point line and 23-for-24 from the free throw line (made her first 16 FTs to start the season).

Chatzileonti averaged 10.5 points and 8.0 rebounds for the Jayhawks in her collegiate debut. The forward led all freshmen in the Conference with 21 points and 16 rebounds on the week. She scored 15 points and went 7-of-8 from the field (85.5%) in the win over Northern Colorado, while grabbing 15 rebounds, scoring six points and blocking four shots in the victory against Texas A&M Corpus Christi.

The weekly award is the second honor for Collier in her career, while Chatzileonti is a first-time recipient.
