The Big 12 had eight teams selected to the 2026 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship, matching the league record originally set in 2008. This is the third consecutive season the league has sent at least seven teams to March Madness.
TCU (29-5, 15-3) will host the first and second rounds for the second consecutive season. The Horned Frogs,
the league’s regular season champions, return home to Schollmaier Arena with an NCAA-leading 42-game home winning streak. TCU will play as the No. 3 seed in Sacramento Regional 4 and open against No. 14 seed UC San Diego on Friday, March 20. The winner will advance to face either No. 6 seed Washington or No. 11 seed South Dakota State.
West Virginia (27-6, 14-4) claimed its first
Big 12 Tournament title since 2017 and will host postseason NCAA basketball for the first time since 1992. WVU, who earned the Big 12's automatic bid, is the No. 4 seed in Fort Worth Regional 3 and will host No. 13 seed Miami (Ohio) in the first round on Saturday, March 21. Fifth-seeded Kentucky or No. 12 seed James Madison awaits the winner.
Baylor (24-8, 13-5) will make its 22nd consecutive March Madness appearance and 24th overall as the No. 6 seed in Sacramento Regional 2. The Bears head to Durham, North Carolina to take on the winner of the First Four matchup between Nebraska and Richmond.
Texas Tech (25-7, 12-6) will make its first NCAA postseason appearance since 2013. The Lady Raiders are the No. 7 seed in Sacramento Regional 2 and open against No. 10 seed Villanova on Friday, March 20 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Texas Tech and Villanova are paired with No. 2 Seed LSU and No. 15 seed Jacksonville.
Iowa State (22-9, 10-8) earned its seventh consecutive NCAA bid and 24th overall. The Cyclones are the No. 8 seed in Fort Worth Regional 1 and will travel to Storrs, Connecticut to face 9 seed Syracuse on Saturday, March 21. The winner will face either top-seeded UConn or No. 16 seed UTSA.
Oklahoma State (23-9, 12-6) secured its 19th tournament bid and is headed to Los Angeles as the No. 8 seed in Sacramento Regional 2. The Cowgirls will open against No. 9 seed Princeton on Saturday, March 21 with No. 1 seed UCLA or No. 16 Cal Baptist awaiting the winner.
Colorado (22-11, 11-7) has now made the field in four of the past five seasons. The Buffaloes are the No. 10 seed in Fort Worth Regional 1 and head to Nashville, Tennessee to face No. 7 seed Illinois on Saturday, March 21. The winner will meet either No. 2 seed Vanderbilt or No. 15 High Point.
Arizona State (24-10, 9-9) makes its first NCAA appearance since 2019 after recording the largest improvement in wins among Power Four teams this season. The Sun Devils were selected as a 10 seed in Sacramento Regional 4 and will face No. 10 seed Virginia in the First Four in Iowa City, Iowa.
The number listed next to the regional site location (e.g., Fort Worth Regional 1) reflects the true seed number of the No. 1 seed within that respective regional pod.
The Big 12 has had at least five selections for the 25th time in 29 tournaments. In total, the Conference has 175 appearances in the Championship since the league’s inception in 1996-97.
The Conference finished the regular season as one of just two leagues nationally to have 75% percent of the conference within the top 60 of the NET and has the second-best record among Power Four leagues in games against other P4 teams (19-15, .559).
First Four games of the 2026 championship will take place March 18-19 and will be conducted on the campuses of four of the teams seeded in the top 16. First- and second-round games will take place March 20-23 on the campuses of the top 16 seeds.
Regional play in Fort Worth, Texas (Dickies Arena) and Sacramento, California (Golden 1 Center) will take place March 27-30, with each site hosting two regional semifinal games March 27 and two March 28. In addition, each site will host one regional championship game March 29 and one on March 30.
The 2026 NCAA Women’s Final Four will be played April 3 and 5 at Mortgage Matchup Center in Phoenix. This is the first time Phoenix will play host to the Women’s Final Four and the first time in 14 years that the event has taken place in the western side of the country.
