Baylor’s Te’a Cooper and Lauren Cox along with K-State’s Peyton Williams, Oklahoma State’s Vivian Gray and West Virginia’s Tynice Martin remain on the midseason watch list for the 2020 Wade Trophy.
Cooper is making a big impact in her lone season in Waco, ranking second in the Big 12 in assists (115) and assists per game (4.6), while also holding the fourth best assist-to-turnover ratio (1.98). She has started 24 games, averaging 13.8 points point game in 29.3 minutes per contest.
Preseason Big 12 Player of the Year Cox is averaging 11.6 points per game and 7.8 boards per contest. The senior missed eight games in the early portion of the season because of a foot injury, but has helped the Lady Bears to a 24-1 overall record and No. 2 ranking in the national polls.
Williams is averaging a double-double this season with 16.0 points and 11.8 rebounds per game to go along with a 47.3 field goal percentage. She ranks fifth nationally in rebounding, seventh in defensive rebounds per game (8.1) and tied for 19th in double-doubles (12).
Gray ranks among Conference leaders in numerous categories, including third in scoring (19.8) and free throw percentage (84.5 percent) and ninth in assists per game (3.7) and steals per contest (1.8). In just her second season in Stillwater she became the fastest Cowgirl to reach the 1,000-point mark, accomplishing the feat in just 51 games.
Martin ranks fourth in the Conference in minutes per game (35.2), sixth in 3-point field goal attempts (141) and eighth in 3-point field goals per game (1.9). The senior has started all 24 games for the Mountaineers, helping them to 15 wins thus far.
The four finalists for the 2020 Wade Trophy will be announced in mid-march. The winner of the award will be announced April 2 in New Orleans, in conjunction with the 2020 WBCA Convention and NCAA Women’s Final Four.
