Three Big 12 soccer standouts were selected in the 2021 NWSL Draft on Tuesday evening.
TCU’s Yazmeen Ryan was picked No. 6 overall in the first round by the Portland Thorns. Texas Tech’s Kirsten Davis was selected by Racing Louisville FC at No. 13 overall in the second round, while K-State’s Brookelynn Entz was picked up in the fourth round at No. 38 by Kansas City.
Ryan becomes the second draft pick and the highest selection in TCU history, joining Ryan Williams who was selected in the 2018 draft. Ryan is TCU's first-ever four-time all-conference performer. She is a three-time first-team honoree. Additionally, Ryan is a two-time USSCA All-Region performer. She played in and started seven games in the fall. Two of her three goals scored on the year were game-winners.
Davis becomes the fifth Red Raider to be drafted into the United States' top women's league and one of the top professional leagues in the world. At 13th overall (second round, pick three), Davis is the third-highest pick in program history. In 2019, Davis was named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year and recognized as a First Team All-American and named a semifinalist for the MAC Hermann Trophy.
Entz became the first National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) draft selection in K-State history. The product of Newton, Kansas, owns or is tied for 28 career, single-season or single match school records including career goals scored (15), career assists (7), total career points (37) and goals in a single-season (5, twice). During the 2020 season, Entz was named to the All-Big 12 First Team by tying her school record for goals in a season and set a school record for goals in Big 12 action with five.
