Texas Tech’s Lisa Mays and TCU’s Alastair Gray were named the first Big 12 Tennis Players of the Week for the 2021 season.
Mays went a combined 5-1 last weekend at the Big 12/Pac-12 Mock Duals, teaming up with Margarita Skriabina to take home the event’s doubles title with a 3-0 record. She was also 2-1 in singles play against Utah, K-State and Kansas, losing her only match in three sets while winning both singles matches 2-0. This is the first player of the week honor for
Mays, as the Sydney, Australia native is repeating her freshman status after last year’s COVID-shortened season.
Gray, the No. 21 singles player in the country, easily disposed of No. 67 Kody Pearson of Tulsa, 6-4, 6-5. Then coupled with Luc Fomba in doubles, the No. 15 duo dominated Texas A&M’s Schachter/Vacherot, with Schachter the No. 4 singles player in the land. Gray and his partner also ousted Texas A&M’s Aguilar/Thomson, 6-3. This is the third career men’s weekly honor for Gray, a junior from Twickenham, England.
