The Big 12 has released its week six volleyball award winners for the 2021 season. Texas’ Skylar Fields was listed as the Big 12 Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week, while Oklahoma’s Callie Kemohah and Peyton Dunn receive Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Fields obtains her second Big 12 offensive award of the season and now has nine career Big 12 weekly awards. The junior averaged 5.17 kills per set and hit .537 in back-to-back sweeps of West Virginia. Fields finished with 31 total kills over the two matches and in the Big 12 opener against WVU, had 16 kills with no errors and a .593 hitting percentage. The Missouri City, Texas native continues to be a key part of the Longhorns’ undefeated start to the season which has them atop the national rankings and conference standings.
Kemohah gains her second defensive Player of the Week award this season. The freshman helped the Sooners to their first Big 12 win of the season, tallying 19 digs along with five assists versus Kansas State. In the second match, Kemohah had 27 digs to average 6.75 digs per set and averaged 5.75 digs per set over the weekend, which led the Big 12.
Dunn repeats as Rookie of the Week and now has three so far this year. The freshman totaled 85 assists during the weekend, including 48 in Friday’s 3-1 Oklahoma victory over Kansas State. Dunn had a double-double in both matches of the weekend with 48 assists and 12 digs on Friday and 37 assists and 12 digs on Saturday, setting a career-high in digs. The Parker, Colorado native now has six double-doubles on the season.
