Iowa State’s Ashley Bengston and West Virginia’s Roanoke Shirk earned their first Big 12 Swimming & Diving Newcomer of the Week awards.
 
Bengston claimed individual titles in the 100 free (52.75) and 200 free (1:54.40). She was also part of the winning 400 free relay team where she swam the third leg with a split of 52.67. The freshman snagged three individual event wins through her first two collegiate meets.
 
Shirk helped the WVU men's 400 freestyle relay team to a third-place finish in their final regular season meet of the year against Notre Dame. He also notched a third-place finish of his own in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:39.68 and placed sixth in the 100 butterfly (50:01).
