Arizona State and TCU Open the Season with Big 12 Weekly Swimming and Diving Awards

Arizona State’s Ilya Kharun (men’s swimmer), Mario Del Valle (men’s diver) and Oliver Munn (men’s newcomer) were named the recipients of the Big 12 Men’s Swimming and Diving weekly awards, while Albane Cachot (women’s swimmer), Saeren Brett (women’s co-diver) and Alyssa Albertyn (women’s newcomer) were recognized on the women’s side for the Sun Devils. TCU’s Emma Larcada Herrera (women’s co-diver) rounded out the Conference’s awards for competition ending Oct. 5.
 
Kharun opened his senior year by leading Arizona State to a season-opening victory over UNLV. The Las Vegas native swept the butterfly events, winning the 100-yard butterfly in 44.10 and the 200-yard butterfly in 1:40.29, winning both races by more than two seconds. Kharun also contributed to a pair of relay wins, swimming a 41.41 anchor leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay and an 18.78 butterfly fly split in the 200-medley relay. This is his 11th Big 12 weekly honor of his career.
 
Cachot captured two individual victories and contributed to a pair of relay wins. The sophomore from Toulouse, France set a school record in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.23 and added a victory in the 50-yard freestyle (22.03). Cachot also swam the anchor legs on both the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays. It is her first Big 12 Women’s Swimmer of the Week accolade, a year after she was named Women’s Newcomer of the Week three times.
 
Del Valle earned his first Big 12 weekly award after his Sun Devil debut against UNLV. The senior from Guadalajara, Mexico swept the diving events, capturing the 1-meter title with a score of 326.25 and the 3-meter competition with a mark of 330.98. Both performances met NCAA Zone qualifying standards, securing his spot for the NCAA Zone Championships in March.
 
Brett secured a share of Women’s Diver of the Week after winning both diving events in her collegiate debut against UNLV. The freshman from London, England posted a score of 245.85 on the 1-meter board and 247.73 on the 3-meter board. The wins contributed 18 points toward Arizona State’s team victory.
 
Larcada Herrera earned a share of the Women’s Diver of the Week award after recording top-two finishes in both diving events for TCU against Incarnate Word. The senior from the Canary Islands, Spain claimed the 3-meter title with a score of 260.55 and added a runner-up finish on the 1-meter board with 252.90 points. It is her second career weekly award after she was named Big 12 Women’s Diver of the Meet to open the 2025-26 season.


Munn took home three gold medals in his collegiate debut for the Sun Devils. The freshman from Uppsala, Sweden swept the breaststroke races with victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (51.86) and 200-yard breaststroke (1:53.67), while helping Arizona State to a win in the 200-yard medley relay. His times rank fifth and sixth, respectively, in program history.
 
Albertyn rounded out the awards for the Sun Devils after accumulating four medals. The O'Fallon, Illinois native won the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.92) and 200-yard backstroke (1:55.20), with her backstroke time ranking sixth all-time in Arizona State history. Albertyn also contributed to the winning 400-yard freestyle relay and posted a 25.06 split in the 200-yard medley relay.
