OSU, TCU and Texas Collect Week 2 Awards

Oklahoma State, TCU and Texas baseball student-athletes were honored in Week 2. A pair of Longhorns collected honors as Cam Williams was tabbed Big 12 Player of the Week and Ty Madden collected Pitcher of the Week recognition. Oklahoma State’s Brock Mathis and TCU’s Luke Boyers shared Newcomer of the Week honors. A five-person media panel selects the award winners.

In five games during the week, Williams batted .400 (8-of-18) with five extra-base hits and eight RBIs in contests against Mississippi State and BYU. He smashed three home runs and two doubles, finishing the week with a 1.11 slugging percentage.

Madden pitched seven innings of one-hit baseball while striking out a career-high 11 batters against BYU. His only hit allowed was an infield single. The right-hander allowed only three runners during the contest.
Mathis led OSU to four wins last week, as the Cowboys got off to their best start to a season since 2014. Along with a .462 batting average, he tied for the team lead with a pair of home runs and five RBIs and turned in a 1.154 slugging percentage. In his first appearances of the season, Mathis went 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored in a win at Wichita State. In helping OSU to a series sweep of Illinois State, Mathis smacked two homers and drove in four runs.

Boyers became the first Horned Frog since 2005 to score six runs in a game – all as a nine-hole hitter. He has a five-game hitting streak and has reached base in all seven games he's played this season.

All of this week’s award winners are first-time selections.
