Baseball Week 5 Honors Announced

Baseball student-athletes from Kansas, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech were recognized for their performances in week five. A five-person media panel selects the honorees.

Texas Tech’s Dru Baker was tabbed Player of the Week, while Oklahoma State’s Parker Scott was tabbed Pitcher of the Week. KU’s Maui Ahuna was tabbed the Newcomer of the Week.

Baker hit .538 (7-of-13) with a series-high seven hits in Tech's Big 12 series win over No. 14 Oklahoma State. He posted multi-hits in every game last week and hit a go-ahead three-run home run Monday against UConn to give Tech a 5-4 lead in the seventh. The sophomore opened up a 1-0 lead in the OSU finale with an RBI double in the third.

Scott tossed seven shutout innings and struck out a season-high nine in the Cowboys' 2-0 win over Texas Tech, as he improved to 4-1 on the season. The southpaw allowed just six hits, all singles, and issued only one walk. Scott's seven innings tied a career high. Behind his efforts, OSU snapped the Red Raiders' 14-game winning streak and also ended TTU's 23-game winning streak at home.

Ahuna helped Kansas secure a four-game sweep of Creighton by batting 9-for-16 in four games. He registered back-to-back four-hit games to start the series. He drew three walks in the third game of the series to go with a hit. Additionally, the freshman drove in a run and had a walk in Sunday's win.
