Baylor, Kansas State and Texas garnered individual accolades to highlight the 2020-21 All-Big 12 Volleyball awards. The honors were selected by the league’s head coaches, who are not permitted to vote for their own institution.
Texas claimed three honors as Logan Eggleston was named Big 12 Player of the Year, Jhenna Gabriel was selected Setter of the Year and Jerritt Elliott was voted Coach of the Year. Baylor’s Shanel Bramschreiber earned Libero of the Year and Kansas State’s Aliyah Carter was named Freshman of the Year.
Eggleston is UT’s 12th player of the year honoree. She leads the Conference with 5.34 points per set and with an average of 0.49 service aces per set. The junior OH is second in the league in kills average (4.57) and fifth in hitting percentage (.332). She was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week five times this season and concluded the regular season as the AVCA National Player of the Week.
Gabriel tops the Big 12 with 11.02 assists per set and helped the Longhorns to a league-leading .333 hitting percentage. She has totaled 926 assists on the season. The junior is the first Texas representative to win the setter award since it was introduced in 2012.
While playing on the back row, Bramschreiber is sixth in the Conference in both digs (3.72) and aces (0.27). The junior has played in all of Baylor’s 96 sets and contributed 104 assists. Bramschreiber is the first Bear to earn the libero honor.
Carter is the second Wildcat to garner the freshman accolade as she is fourth in the Big 12 in both points (4.47) and kills (4.11) per set. The OH earned five Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors, including three consecutive in March. She was also Offensive Player of the Week on March 24.
In his 20th season, Elliott guided Texas to its fourth-consecutive and 13th overall Big 12 Championship. The Longhorns have won or shared nine of the last 10 league championships and 12 of the previous 14. UT went undefeated at 16-0 in conference play and is 23-1 heading into the NCAA Tournament. Elliott was named coach of the year for the seventh season.
Fifteen student-athletes were named to the All-Big 12 First Team while nine were chosen to the Second Team. Six freshmen were selected to the All-Big 12 Rookie Team.
