Kansas State and Texas student-athletes collected weekly honors for their accomplishments in the final week of the 2021 regular season.
Wildcat infielder Cameron Thompson collected Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week, while sophomore teammate Jordan Wicks earned Pitcher of the Week. Texas senior Mike Antico garnered Newcomer of the Week. A five-person media panel selects the honorees.
Thompson posted a slash line of .615/.643/1.385 with three straight multi-hit games in K-State's series win over No. 5 TCU. In the finale, he was 4-for-5 with a double, home run and three RBI. He hit a leadoff home run and added a two-run double in K-State's seven-run ninth that erased an 8-4 deficit in the bottom of the inning. He led the league in slugging, with five extra-base hits, as well as hits and runs.
Wicks logged a season-high 7 2/3 innings Thursday night in a 4-2 victory over No. 5 TCU. He struck out seven and yielded two runs on five hits. Wicks moved into second place on K-State's all-time strikeout list and is just two away from tying the program record of 223. Wicks put together stretches of seven and nine consecutive hitters retired in carding his seventh quality outing in 14 starts.
Antico batted .500 (6-of-12) with two doubles and a home run during the West Virginia series that clinched a share of the Big 12 regular-season title for the Longhorns. The senior also stole a base to up his league lead to 25.
This is the second honor of the season for Antico and Wicks, while Thompson is a first-time honoree.
