Seventeen Big 12 standouts were selected on the final day of the 2021 MLB Draft. A total of 38 players were drafted in 20 rounds, which is a Conference record.
Texas Tech finished the three-day event with nine selections followed by seven from Texas, six from TCU, four each from K-State and West Virginia, three apiece from Oklahoma and Oklahoma State and two from Baylor.
At least 36 or more Big 12 players have been selected in every draft since 1997 with the exception of the shortened draft in 2020. With the recent contraction of 40 rounds to 20, the Big 12 still surpassed the previous record of 35 selections through 20 rounds in 2006 and 2007.
K-State’s Jordan Wicks and Texas’ Ty Madden were first round selections, marking the fourth consecutive season the Conference had at least one player taken in the first round and the 19th time since 1998.
