Texas’ Logan Eggleston (Offensive) and Asjia O’Neal (Defensive) along with Iowa State’s Maya Duckworth (Rookie) claimed Big 12 Volleyball honors for the eighth week of the season. The trio guided their teams to a 4-0 mark during the week while lifting the Cyclones and the Longhorns to the top spots in the league standings ahead of their matchup Wednesday, October 19 in Ames, Iowa on Big 12 Now at 6:30 p.m. CT.
Eggleston led No. 1 Texas to a pair of wins, including a four-set road win over then No. 18 Baylor. The senior had 33 kills and 4.71 kills per set for the week, both the most in the league. The native of Brentwood, Tennessee hit .368 and cemented herself in the UT Volleyball record book with four service aces against K-State, becoming the program record holder, surpassing Mira Topic’s 186. Eggleston’s current mark of 189 aces ranks third in Big 12 history, just two behind Texas Tech’s Heather Hughes-Justice and 16 shy of the league mark held by Baylor’s Taylor Barnes (205). This is the two-time Big 12 Player of the Year’s 11
th career weekly award, the seventh-most all-time, and ties her for second all-time in Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors (11).
O’Neal led the Big 12 with 13 total blocks during the week and had 16 kills while hitting .571. The redshirt junior had a season-high .750 hitting percentage along with eight total blocks against No. 18 Baylor to help the Longhorns extend their record to 5-0 against ranked competition, the best mark in the country against ranked teams. This is O’Neal’s first weekly honor this season and the third of her career.
Duckworth turned in a double-double in both of ISU’s Conference wins during the week. The freshman totaled a team-leading 14 kills in a five-set win over West Virginia and matched a career-high with 12 digs in a 3-1 road victory against Oklahoma. The Hurst, Texas native is the first player to repeat in a weekly honor this season.
