Texas’ Molly Phillips (Offensive), Iowa State’s Brooke Stonestreet (Defensive) and Oklahoma’s Taylor Preston (Rookie) procured Big 12 Volleyball accolades for the 10
th week of the season. Phillips and Stonestreet guided their teams to undefeated weeks to stay atop the league standings while Preston led OU to a thrilling five-set victory over Kansas.
Phillips led the Big 12 with a .588 hitting percentage on 34 total attacks during the Longhorns’ wins over Texas Tech and Kansas State, helping UT head coach Jerritt Elliott pick up his 600th career victory. The junior had 22 total kills and eight total blocks while averaging 3.71 points per set and 3.14 kills per set, ranking top-10 in the Big 12 for both during the week. This is the Second Team All-Big 12 member’s first Big 12 Offensive weekly award and her third overall.
Stonestreet notched her eighth match this season with 20 or more digs, collecting 24 in a four-set win over TCU. The native of Olathe, Kansas led the Conference with 6.00 digs per set during the week, helping the Cyclones extend their Big 12 winning streak to seven for the first time since 2012. The sophomore has had 20 straight matches with 10-plus digs. Stonestreet becomes just the second player this season to win a weekly award in back-to-back weeks and the first Defensive player to do so.
Preston had a career-high 22 kills to go with eight digs and a block in the Sooners’ road victory against the Jayhawks. The freshman was second overall in the league for kills per set (4.11) and third overall in the league for points per set during the week (4.39). This is Preston’s first Big 12 award.
