2022 Fall Scholar-Athletes of the Year Announced

Irving, Texas - The Big 12 Conference has announced its 2022 Fall Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The following student-athletes have been selected as award winners for their respective sports based on a vote of each sport’s head coaching group.

Big 12 Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Alex Maier, Oklahoma State, Senior, Flower Mound, Texas
  • Holds a 3.79 GPA as an electrical engineering technology major, having participated in 66.7% of events this season.
  • Named USTFCCCA Midwest Region Athlete of the Year and Big 12 Runner of the Year.
  • Finished fifth at the NCAA Championships, leading the Cowboys to a second-place overall finish.
  • Three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.

Big 12 Women’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Dana Feyen, Iowa State, Senior, Galesville, Wisc.
  • Kinesiology and health major with a 4.00 grade point average who participated in 100 percent of competitions.
  • Three-time All-Big 12 performer who finished sixth at the Big 12 Championship and qualified for the NCAA Championship.
  • Four-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team selection.

Big 12 Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Dillon Doyle, Baylor, Senior, Iowa City, Iowa
  • Working on a master’s of business administration with a 3.97 GPA and had 100 percent participation.
  • Co-led the Bears with 80 tackles with two picks, three QB hurries and two pass breakups.
  • First player in Big 12 history to earn first or second team all-conference accolades as an offensive (second team fullback) and defensive player (first team linebacker).
  • Named a First-Team Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators.

Big 12 Soccer Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Hannah Anderson, Texas Tech, Senior, Plano, Texas
  • Holds a 3.88 GPA as a human sciences major who participated in every Texas Tech match.
  • Named to the All-Big 12 First Team as a defender, scoring two goals.
  • Four-time Academic All-Big 12 award winner. 

Big 12 Soccer Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Jordan Brewster, West Virginia, 5th Year, North Canton, Ohio
  • Graduated with a master’s of business administration and a 3.90 GPA while participating in 96% of contests.
  • Named a United Soccer Coaches All-American for the third consecutive season, scoring three goals.
  • Picked as an Academic All-American by College Sports Communicators and a Scholar All-America by United Soccer Coaches.

Big 12 Soccer Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Cailey England, Oklahoma, Junior, Dripping Springs, Texas
  • A biology major with a 4.00 GPA who played in all 20 OU matches, starting 19.
  • Scored a goal and added an assist, playing 1448 minutes.
  • Three-time Academic All-Big 12 award winner. 

Big 12 Soccer Co-Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Emma Regan, Texas, 5th Year, Burnaby, British Columbia
  • Compiled a 3.93 GPA in marketing, and participated in 100% of Texas’ matches.
  • Voted to the All-Big 12 Second Team, her third All-Big 12 honor, as a midfielder after scoring three goals with an assist.
  • Earned Academic All-Big 12 distinction in each of the last five years.

Big 12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Mackenzie Morris, Kansas State, Junior, Dallas, Texas
  • Majoring in accounting with a 4.00 GPA and competed in all 29 of K-State’s matches.
  • Led the Wildcats with 4.55 digs per set, to go along with 73 assists and 21 service aces.
  • Named Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week on Nov. 29 for the third time in her career.
  • Has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 team three times.

The Big 12 Conference established its Scholar-Athlete of the Year Award in 2012-13. A recipient is named in each conference-sponsored sport. Every Big 12 institution nominates one individual per sport with the winners selected by a vote of the league head coaches for that sport, who are not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes. Scholar-Athlete of the Year nominees must be a junior or senior (athletic and academic standing), have a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher, participate in at least 20 percent of the team’s scheduled contests and have a minimum of one year in residence at the institution.
