IRVING, Texas – TCU’s Brayden Taylor (Player), Oklahoma State’s Trevor Martin (Pitcher), and West Virginia’s JJ Wetherholt (Newcomer) took home the first Big 12 Baseball weekly honors for the 2022 season.
 
Taylor hit .636 with a 1.551 OPS as the Horned Frogs took two-of-three games at the MLB4 Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona. Taylor hit the game-tying double, then came around to score the go-ahead run in TCU’s come-from-behind rally to beat San Diego State 5-3 in the season opener. He went 2-for-4 with two RBIs against Cal and had a 3-for-4 day to close the weekend against Houston. Taylor had three multi-hit games, and reached base safely 11 times. He accounted for nine of TCU’s 21 runs on the weekend.
 
Martin picked up a win and a save in relief, clinching Oklahoma State’s series win at No. 3 Vanderbilt. Saturday, Martin struck out the side in the ninth inning to earn the save in OSU’s 4-3 win. He pitched 1.2 innings on Sunday, retiring the Commodores in order in the ninth to secure the series victory. For the week, he struck out six and did not allow a hit in 2.2 innings of work, allowing just a single run.
 
Wetherholt hit .538 with six RBIs in his debut weekend to help WVU to a 3-0 start for the first time since 2012. He began his college career with a grand slam in his first plate appearance, highlighting a 3-for-5 game against Central Michigan. The Mars, Pennsylvania native had two-or-more hits in all three games, and added a double and triple to his grand slam. He posted a 1.571 OPS with two stolen bases and four runs scored.
