TTU’s Coleman, OU’s Martinez Receive Big 12 Baseball Weekly Honors

IRVING, Texas – Texas Tech’s Ty Coleman was selected as the Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week and Newcomer of the Week, plus Oklahoma’s Chazz Martinez was picked as the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week for games ending February 27.

Coleman hit .471 with 11 RBI and two home runs, including a go-ahead 3-run blast in the seventh inning to clinch a sweep for the Red Raiders. The junior designated hitter had three multi-hit games, including a 3-for-5 performance with two doubles to open a doubleheader Sunday. He had four RBI in two games, including Texas Tech’s midweek win against Dallas Baptist. For the week, Coleman had a 1.441 OPS, scored six runs, and four of his eight hits went for extra bases. These are Coleman’s first weekly honors from the Big 12.

Martinez did not allow a run in 7.0 innings of work against Northwestern State, scattering three hits and striking out 14 as he picked up his first career win. He struck out six consecutive batters in the second and third innings, then later retired nine straight Demons after a one-out double in the fourth. The sophomore lefty had the most strikeouts for an Oklahoma pitcher since 2019, and did not let a Northwestern State player reach third base. It is Martinez’s first career weekly honor.
